Canada Day in Winnipeg

A New Day at the Forks

Time: 8am-6pm

Where: The Forks (Google directions)

The Forks is reimagining Canada Day, and while there might not be fireworks, there’s still plenty to do! Open the day with a morning celebration led by Indigenous elders and explore the family-friendly, multicultural entertainment throughout the Forks during the day. Local artisans and food trucks will be on-site, and the Manitoba African Cup of Nations Soccer Tournament will be played all afternoon.

Assiniboia Downs Canada Day Fireworks & Festival

Time: 1-11pm

Where: Assiniboia Downs, 3975 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 2E9 (Google directions)

If you’re looking for more action and festivities, check out the Assiniboia Downs. There will be live bands, beer gardens, food trucks, activities for kids, and over 100+ artisans. Showstopping fireworks at 11pm. Tickets $10, 5 & under free. Parking $5. 

Prairie Dog Central Railway

Time: 11am-2.45pm

Celebrate July 1 with Canada’s oldest regularly scheduled operating vintage Steam Locomotive! Enjoy the live entertainment by the Audayo Brothers and the history lessons from the onboard presenter. More live music and goodies at the Heritage Village and Inkster Junction Station.

Manitoba Children’s Museum

Time: 11am-3pm

What better way to celebrate Canada’s birthday than with a homemade sparkler? Head over to the Manitoba Children’s Museum to create colourful sparklers with your young ones. 

Bridgewater Lakes Park

Time: 11am-3pm

Where: 75 Bridge Lake Dr, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 0J6 (Google directions)

Activities for kids include bouncy castles, face painting, a petting zoo & games. Multicultural entertainment, free cake & refreshments, food trucks, bazaar tables and more. 

“Canada Night:” A Homegrown Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roots Retrospective

Time: 8.30pm-12mn

Where: Blue Note Park, 220 Main St, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A8 (Google directions)

Enjoy Canada’s greatest hits with live music! Doors at 7.30pm. 18+ unless accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Tickets $20. Location is next to High and Lonesome Club.

Canada Day Celebration at Assiniboine Park

Time: 11am-5pm

Where: 55 Pavilion Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2N6 (Google directions)

Free outdoor concerts and shows, activities for kids, food trucks and a maker’s market. The day will open with an Indigenous blessing with sacred Fire and tobacco offerings at the Indigenous Peoples Garden. No fireworks this year. Picnic sites available on a first-come-first-serve basis. There will be a free Park n’ Ride service from the Canadian Mennonite University (500 Shaftesbury Blvd).

Transcona BIZ Canada Day Scavenger Hunt

Time: June 27, 8am – July 4, 12pm

Where: Transcona Business Improvement Zone (Google directions)

Pick up your kits to participate in the scavenger hunt from the Transcona BIZ Office at 108 Bond Street, limited quantities available so team up or hunt alone. Keep an eye out for 10 hidden Canada Day Themed Rocks.  Prizes include gift certificates, outdoor chairs, cooler bags and more. 

Canada Day celebrations outside Winnipeg

Winnipeg isn’t the only place to celebrate Canada Day, and here is a list of known celebrations outside of Winnipeg!

Canada Day Concert in Lac du Bonnet

Time: 6pm-2am

Where: 35 McArthur Ave, Lac Du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0 (Google directions)

Dance the night away to 6 rocking tribute bands, and meet old friends in the beer garden, all while supporting the local rink. Tickets $48.76.

Canada Day Celebration @ The Marsh

Time: 10am-4.30pm

Where: 1 Snow Goose Bay, Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0 (Google directions)

What better way to celebrate Canada Day than exploring nature on this day? Participate in a guided canoe adventure or rent your own canoe to explore the Marsh at your own pace. Have the Canadian flag or your favourite marsh critter painted on your hand. Free Canada Day Cookie while supplies last.

East St. Paul Canada Day Super Run 2022

Time: 7am-12pm

Where: 264 Hoddinott Rd, East Saint Paul, MB R2E 0H7 (Google directions)

Take part in the family fun run (3km), or the 3km and 5km route starting from the East St. Paul Community Centre. Registration starts from $35. No walk-up registrations allowed.

Gimli Fireworks Kayaking Tour

Time: 9-11pm

Where: Gimli Harbour, 1 Ave, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0 (Google directions)

Sign up for a two-hour tour that involves night paddling on Lake Winnipeg, and then take in the annual Canada Day Fireworks Show at Gimli Harbour. This tour will take place weather permitting. Previous kayaking experience required.

RocketRez Canada Day Celebration

Time: 9am-5pm

Where: Mennonite Heritage Village, 231 Provincial Trunk Hwy 12, Steinbach, MB R5G 1T8 (Google directions)

Canada Day flag-raising ceremony, wagon rides, guided tours, activities for kids, waffles and more. 

People of the Red River – St. Andrews Rectory

Time: 11am-2pm

Where: 374 River Rd, St. Andrews, MB, Canada R1A 2Y1 (Google directions)

Explore early life in the Red River Settlement, featuring live demonstrations of agriculture antiques with costumed interpreters from the Manitoba Living History Society. Free bannock, activities for kids and crafts and a maker’s market. Free entrance.

The Hunter Brothers at Killarney

Time: 2-11pm

Where: Killarney Agricultural Grounds, 42 Water Ave, Killarney, MB R0K 1G0 (Google directions)

Enjoy beer gardens, food trucks and live music throughout the day. The Hunter Brothers will perform at 9.30pm, with fireworks at 11pm. Tickets from $54.06, and $22.23 for youths.
